Town hall (Rathaus)

Short facts

  • Coburg
  • Sights

On the south side of the market square stands the magnificent Coburg town hall.

The town hall is the main building on the south side of the square. It received its present-day look around the turn of the century. The building’s most significant feature is the oriel window on the corner to Ketschengasse. It was built in 1578 and went down in architectural art history as the “Coburger Erker” (“Coburg Oriel”). The large council hall on the second floor is also noteworthy as one of the most important Renaissance rooms in all of Franconia.
