COBURG'S CITY GATES

Remains of the city fortifications are still present. City gates were built as a protective measure where the roads led out of the city. There was an outer gate for every inner gate to the city. Of the four former inner gates, only the Spitaltor and Judentor remain, both of which were built in the 13th century. The only outer city gate that has been preserved to the present day is the Ketschentor. The stone gates are no longer part of the townscape.
